About the Center
The Miramar College Child Development Center is committed to meeting the individual needs of children, their families and college students, preparing them to become contributing members in a diverse society.
The children's program is planed and implemented to nurture each child socially, emotionally, cognitively, linguistically and physically through integrated practices and curriculum. Children are guided through learning experiences appropriate for their individual capabilities and readiness.
The program provides children opportunities for challenge and mastery, peer interactions, individual needs and interests. An integrated curriculum provides opportunities for exploration of the environment through language and literacy, creative activities, science, math, sensory experiences, and motor activities. Children are encouraged to think, reason,recall and experiment as they work. Meeting the needs and interests of children and their families includes sensitivity of the diverse values and cultures of individual children.
A bridge between school and home is critical for a child's learning, growth and development. Families are encouraged to engage actively in the life of the center. Opportunities to participate in special events, parent conferences, the child's classroom and the Advisory Board are offered throughout the school year.
College Laboratory Program
The Child Development Center is a laboratory preschool that provides environments for college students to observe, interact and implement the ideas and theories that are presented as part of the college program.
The Child Development Center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), licensed by the California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing, Title 22 (Division 12) and meets the guidance of the California Department of Education, Title 5. The Center staff meets the education qualifications for Child Development Permits, issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentials.
Enrollment and Fees
Priority is based on need and income per the California Department of Education
-Children must be between the ages of two and five years old, have a physical exam within 30 days of enrollment and a current immunization record.
-Fees are based on family gross income, family size, and contract for services provided.
